When I moved in my basement had this small corner angled wall with built in shelves for components. Who has components these days! I wanted to transform it into a home bar area with minimal structural changes and cost. This is not a detailed how to but rather inspiration for possibilities since it was such a custom space.
Here is the before. I decided to remove a few of the glass shelves to make room for a mini fridge. The rest of the basement is painted in various gray tones and I wanted the corner wall to be a feature wall so I chose a deep red.
I found this amazing peel and stick metal tile on Amazon. It was pretty easy to cut and shape it for the space with a heavy duty utility knife. It really gave it a nice modern look behind the glass shelves. I then went on a quest for a bar. I was going to build it myself or find a used one and update it. I found a great used wooden bar on Letgo for $100. I found the used bar stools on Craigslist. They were originally brown with the red cushions and I used my go to black jel stain to paint the legs black. That only took about 30 minutes and only needed one coat.
I did put 2 coats of polyurethane on the top of the bar to make it shine nicely. I put the glass shelves back in and then added my glasses and the mini fridge. I had already had an outlet behind the wall so I didn’t have to mess with anything electrical. I really love how it turned out and did it all myself! That means that you can do this type of project on your own too! It just takes a little imagination and the right products and some effort!
Here is my product list for this project. I found most items on Amazon (ads) and the paint from Home Depot.
