Quick Easy and Stylish Deck Privacy Curtain

I absolutely LOVE spending time outside so when I moved into my new place updating the deck and my outdoor space was a top priority. Staining the deck and figuring out where to place my furniture was easy enough. My challenge however, was figuring out how to abide by HOA rules, have some privacy and shade and make the space look cute. I found out that I couldn’t have any permanent structures added to the deck so out went my idea of getting a gazebo installed! I needed something that I could put up myself and that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. I figured I would hang some outdoor curtains but couldn’t build or add wooden posts to the deck as it would break HOA rules. I found a unique solution! I bought a display backdrop metal banner stand on Amazon that people usually use for photography backdrops or displays at trade shows as well as a pair of outdoor curtains (There are links at the end of the post if you want to purchase these items on Amazon). The stand was very easy to put together and you can adjust the length and the height. I used a drill bit and drilled holes at the bottom of the stand and bought some long screws with bolts from the hardware store. I then drilled 2 holes at each end of the base through the deck floor boards and attached the stand to the deck by inserting the screws through the hole that I drilled in the stand base and the deck wood and secured it underneath with a bolt. The curtains were super easy to attach to the top pole as it was put together by screwing the ends together.  The curtains were available in a dozen or so colors and a few different lengths. Total cost was just under $100.00! I also found some super cute solar lantern lights that have a cool light shadow effect and placed some on the table and some around the deck floor.
