I have been making this grilled sandwich for years. It’s simple and easy to make. Small techniques make all the difference so I wanted to share them. I hope you like it!
Ingredients and tools needed
- Non stick skillet or pan
- spatula
- Butter knife
- bread (any kind you want)
- Miracle Whip
- Butter
- Eggs (1 egg per sandwich)
- Pepper
- Sliced american cheese
Instructions/Steps
- Spread miracle whip on each piece of bread. Use as little or as much as you want.
- Heat your skillet to medium and wait a few minutes for it to warm up.
- If you aren’t using a non stick pan then spray a little Pam in the pan.
- Crack an egg in the middle of the pan.
- Shake a little pepper on the egg.
- Use your spatula to break up the yoke.
- Use your spatula to shape the egg to a rectangle the size or your bread while it’s cooking.
- When it has cooked where it is no longer running on top flip it over and finish cooking the other side.
- Now take the fried egg and place it on one piece of your miracle whipped bread.
- Take a slice of cheese and place it over the egg. The warmth of the egg will melt the cheese so when we put the sandwich back in the pan it’s just to toast each side and not to melt the cheese. Put the other slice of bread on top.
- Now take a small piece of butter and drop it in the middle of the pan. Use your knife to quickly spread the butter as it melts to cover an area the size of your sandwich. Don’t let the butter burn. You may want to lower the heat a little for this part until you have done it a few times so it doesn’t burn.
- Quickly place the sandwich back in the pan on top of the melted butter. You are basically toasting it now and will need to lift an end to check on the browning process every 30 seconds or so. Once it is beautifully golden brown you will want to take it out and do the same thing for the other side.
- Don’t press down on the bread with your spatula or hand. You don’t want to flatten the sandwich. This gives you a nice and fluffy sandwich in the end.
- If you are making multiple sandwiches then cook all of the eggs and place them on the bread and then add the cheese before moving on to toasting them. This leaves your pan cleaner and is better if you have to lower the temp for the toasting part.
- You can now enjoy your yummy sandwich! I have modified it by adding ham or leaving the mayo off at times so experiment and enjoy.
